Augusta Man Killed in Single Car Crash Monday Evening

Augusta man killed in single car crash Monday evening. Police are still trying to figure out what caused him to lose control of his car. At about 8:35 p.m., James Bernard Thomas was driving his Buick SUV down 15th Street near Carver Street. All of a sudden, he lost control of his vehicle. The authorities still have no idea what caused Mr. Thomas to lose control.

As a result of losing control of his vehicle, Thomas ended up crashing into a fence and several signs. He then knocked down a telephone pole and caused a transformer to blow. Georgia Power had to come out and investigate the scene and make sure there was no threat to public safety.

No other cars were involved in the crash. And, so far, no witnesses have come forth to say what might have happened with Thomas’ car. Unfortunately, Thomas isn’t able to tell his side of the story because he died as a result of his injuries. The coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.

The police have no indicated that drugs or alcohol had anything to do with the crash. However, the Anderson County coroner will be performing an autopsy. Usually, this is done for two reasons. First, it can rule out the question of whether the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident. Second, it can help determine if the victim was suffering from a medical issue or emergency at the time of the crash. The investigation in this case is ongoing.
