I was in a hit and run car accident in January 2009 at no fault of my own. The other person was at fault, and insured with a small insurance company. The insurance company was not able to find or contact the insured person. I was trying to deal with the insurance company directly on my own just wanting them to pay my medical expenses and time off work. It was becoming very difficult to work with the insurance company and they made me a very small offer of about $3,400 which did not even cover my basic medical expenses.

The insurance company did settle in November of 2009 for $25,000.00 which was the cap for the small insurance company of the hit and run. I still needed additional medical care and a change in job status. You informed me of my rights and explain to me that there could be additional help for me through my own insurance company for medical expenses. I would not have been aware of this myself, but you advised me of my rights and asked me if this was something I wanted to pursue.

I continued on with my medical treatment after surgery, all the while still incurring co-payment and medical expenses which were needed. I had exhausted all resources, and got all the help that was offered. However, there was still a life change for me and the pain was still there. The case continued with my own insurance company thinking that my settlement was adequate. They were unwilling to settle or make any offers saying the amount received from the other insurance was enough.

I felt a little disappointed but you told me not to take it personally. The encouragement you gave me and the legal advice kept me going. We decided to have a trial date and not simply let it go. We had a jury trial and the jury agreed in October 2012 handing over a settlement of $78,000. I was very pleased with the outcome as this was not something expected.
